Bangalore - New Zealand wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum smashed the highest score ever made in any form of international Twenty20 cricket when he scored 156 to lead the Kolkata Knight Riders to an extraordinary total of 222 for three in the inaugural match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday.
McCullum faced a mere 73 deliveries and hammered another record of 14 sixes as well as nine fours in his brutal assault.
He said: "I couldn't feel my legs for the first seven or eight balls because I was so nervous.
"It was the huge crowd, the start of a massive tournament...but it felt great to hit a few out of the middle."
McCullum added 61 for the first wicket with skipper Saurav Ganguly who managed just ten while the second highest score came from Australian captain Ricky Ponting who made 20 from as many balls.
Part-time spinner Cameron White was heaved over the ropes for 24 in his solitary over while Jacques Kallis conceded 48 runs from his full allocation of four overs.
