Australian Open loses sponsor
16/04/2008 12:04 - (SA)
Sydney - The Australian Open, seeking a major sponsor, will be played from December 11-14 at Royal Sydney Golf Club.
Golf Australia said on Wednesday that Royal Sydney would host the tournament for the 13th time, where defending champion Craig Parry and former US Open winner Geoff Ogilvy are confirmed starters.
Golf Australia chief executive Tony Hallam said fund management company MFS had ended a three-year sponsorship.
"The naming rights sponsor or major partner is a very key one to fill," Hallam said.
Paul McNamee, who was executive director of both the men's and women's Australian Opens for the past two years, left his post recently to take on a similar position with Australian Football League club Melbourne.
McNamee was formerly the Australian Open tennis tournament director.
