Immelman runs out of gas

Dallas - In his first competitive outing since winning at Augusta, Trevor Immelman blamed his victory celebrations and a host of subsequent media commitments for his below par performance in the first round of the Byron Nelson Championship reports the Sunshine Tour website.
Immelman's whirlwind schedule since winning the Masters 12 days ago caught up with him in Thursday's opening round and the South African ballooned to an eight-over-par 78 in a round littered with seven dropped shots and a dismal triple-bogey against two birdies.
Immelman said: "I was just totally out of gas. I felt like I was playing in another man's body. As hard as I tried to knuckle down, I just couldn't quite get it together.
"It's been a pretty crazy time for me and my family to experience everything that's gone with the victory.
'The course was playing tough'
"We've got a lot of things coming in right now, and obviously I'm really appreciative and thankful for that. It's flattering that people want me to come to their events. But I've got to sit down and figure out what's going to work best for me.
"The course was playing real tough. It's playing long and windy and it's really tricky out there. I had a few bad shots and missed some short putts."
Immelman didn't make a birdie until his 15th hole. The enjoyment of being announced as Masters champion for the first time on the 10th tee (he played the back nine first) faded quickly as Immelman made the turn at six-over-par 41.
