Els Invitational cancelled

Wentworth - Due to a congested tournament schedule, the Ernie Els Invitational golf tournament will not be taking place in December 2008. This was announced on Tuesday by Els' business manager, Phill Cotton.
"The sole reason for this is because of the unfortunate timing of events on the Sunshine Tour this year, something which is simply beyond everyone's control - the SAA Open Championship only finishes on the 21st of December, which does not leave enough time to stage our usual end-of-year event before Christmas," explained Cotton from Wentworth, England.
"The 2007 Ernie Els Invitational was definitely the best ever and was very successful, so it is a great pity that the dates fall the way they do," said Els.
Cotton went on to explain plans were, however, in place to hold an Ernie Els-hosted one-day fund-raising event on the Monday following the SAA Open Championship.
While the exact structure and format will be advised in due course, the event will benefit the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation as in previous years and will also concentrate on raising funds and awareness for Autism, something that is also close to the Els' hearts.
He concluded by saying Invitational will definitely be held in December 2009 as the Tour's schedule will once again enable them to host an end-of-season event in the spirit of past Invitationals.
