Melbourne - Southeast Asian nations have traditionally proved strong in the Games badminton, and England will want to break their stranglehold.
Malaysia is defending the men's singles, and men's and women's doubles title while Singapore holds the women's crown. England are the current mixed doubles and team event champions.
World No 2 Lee Chong Wei is Malaysia's chief hope of retaining the prestigious men's title after defending champion Hashim Muhammad failed to make the team.
Singaporean shuttler Li Li looks a good bet to hold onto her title with the woman she beat in 2002 for gold - England's world No 9 Tracey Hallam - again shaping up as her main rival.
Chris Dednam and Dorian James will be competing in men's singles and doubles competition for South Africa, while Michelle Edwards and Kerry-Lee Harrington will compete in the women's section.
Harrington and Dednam will participate in mixed doubles section.
