Melbourne - Netball is one sport at the Commonwealth Games that undoubtedly attracts the globe's best competitors.
The eight top-ranked nations in the world are among the 12 netball teams competing in Melbourne, making the Commonwealth Games the code's major international showcase.
While New Zealand and Australia are widely tipped to reach the gold medal play-off, Jamaica, England and South Africa are also expected to challenge for honours.
New Zealand won netball's first gold medal when the women's sport made its Commonwealth debut at Kuala Lumpur in 1998 and is red-hot favourite to repeat the feat after trouncing arch-rivals Australia in November.
