Barcelona - Ralf Schumacher, who celebrated back-to-back world championship wins by clinching victory in the French Grand Prix at the weekend, continued his sparkling form here on Wednesday when he topped the time charts in testing ahead of title rivals Ferrari.

The Williams driver clocked 1min 17.908secs with team test driver Marc Gene second fastest with 1:18.383.

Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello was only fourth fastest just behind Kimi Raikkonen in a McLaren.

"Barcelona is a good track for testing, as long as it is not too windy," said Barrichello.

"Ferrari is running simultaneous programmes at Mugello and Fiorano this week which is an added benefit.

"We are working on our own programmes, but at the end of the day, we will be kept informed of what the others have done. It is useful to check if they have come up with similar results. Or if something new being tested at another track has produced some interesting data then that is important for us to know."

Times:

Ralf Schumacher (Ger) Williams 1:17.908 (98 laps)
