Washington - The director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Robert Mueller, will visit Athens this week to discuss security for the 2004 Olympics, an FBI spokesperson confirmed on Monday.
Mueller's visit will include meetings with key Olympics organisers and a review of the status of anti-terrorism measures.
"He will meet foreign services during the week. The Olympic Games will be one of the questions discussed during the trip," the spokesperson said.
Greece is being assisted in its security plans by the United States, Britain, Germany, Australia, Spain, France and Israel.
The first big test of security operations is scheduled for December, with a security exercise organised jointly by Greece and the United States in Stuttgart, Germany starting on November 5.
The costs of putting security in place for the 2004 Games is expected to rise to an unprecedented €650 million.
