Natalie smashes world record

Durban - Natalie du Toit smashed the world record in the 800m freestyle event (class S9) on the first day of the National Championships for the Physically Disabled.
Du Toit clocked a time of 9.20.16 (old record 9.28.17) in the Kings Park pool.
Five South African records were also bettered with Matthew Packard (class S3) bettering the 200m freestyle record in a time of 5.24.07 (5.30.90). Tiaan Lamprecht (class S10 u/14) improved on the 50m Fly record 0.39.70 (0.44.94) while Tiaan du Plessis (class S8), Carl Shreuder (class S9) and Charles Bouwer (class S13 u/14) all bettered their respective 100m backstroke SA records.
In the Powerlifting event at the Game City Gym, six Junior SA records were broken with Annah Mooketsi and Chantelle Stierman - shortlisted paralympic athletes - each breaking the SA record in their respective weight divisions.
Mooketsi Annah lifted 92.5kg (weight division 52kg), and Stierman lifting 90kg (weight division 60kg). Newcomer Kirsten Wright in the 44kg division lifted an incredible 75kg at his first National Championships.
Former Paralympian and stalwart of South African sport, Moekie Grobbelaar broke the SA record in the ladies 56kg division with a lift of 95.5kg and Eugene Popov in the 75kg division broke the SA record by an incredible 12.5kg with a lit of 132.5kg.
Another newcomer, Allan Bester also bettered the SA record in the 82.5kg division with a lift of 140kg with the previous record being 122kg.
