  • IOC chief: Jones is 'stupid'
  • Lausanne, Switzerland - Moroccan distance runner Hicham El Guerrouj, British rower Matthew Pinsent and Greek sprinter Konstantinos Kenteris are among 32 athletes vying for spots on the IOC athletes' commission.

Four positions are open on the 19-member panel. The voting will take place in the athletes' village during the Athens Olympics in August, with the results announced on Aug 26.

Athletes serve eight-year terms on the panel, which is chaired by former pole vaulter Sergei Bubka.

El Guerrouj won the silver medal in the 1 500m at the 2000 Sydney Games. He has four world championship gold medals.

Kenteris won the gold medal in the 200m in Sydney, and Pinsent is a three-time Olympic rowing champion.

Other candidates include Poland's Robert Korzeniowski, winner of three Olympic golds in race walking, and three-time volleyball gold medalist Mireya Alejandrina Luis Hernandez of Cuba.

The 32 athletes - representing 32 countries - have won a combined 19 Olympic golds.
