Ryk competes in extreme relay

Cape Town - Olympic gold medallist Ryk Neethling is to represent South Africa in the Giants Extreme Relay in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday December 5.
The Extreme Relay is the first of its kind, and combines swimming, mountain biking, hang-gliding and beach running. The other members of the team are mountain biker Johann Potgieter, hang-glider Anton Brown and athlete Leeds Mthangayi. Eighty teams from more than 30 countries will be competing.
The race starts off Copacabana Beach with a 4km ocean swim. This is followed by a 45km mountain bike race through the inner city, up to the statue of Jesus, through the rain forest of Tijuca National Park and up to Pedra Bonita. The hang-gliding leg is from Pedra de Gavea to Ipenema Beach, and the race finishes with a 15km run.
