Plano, Texas - Michael Irvin, the former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver who is in the running for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, has been charged with misdemeanour possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said Irvin was pulled over on Friday afternoon for speeding and arrested on an outstanding warrant, also for speeding.
A search of his vehicle turned up the drug paraphernalia. Irvin was released after paying a fine for the ticket and posting bond on the drug charge.
In 1996, Irvin pleaded no contest to felony cocaine possession in exchange for four years of deferred probation. He also paid a $10 000 fine and had a marijuana charge dismissed.
A member of three Super Bowl-winning teams for the Cowboys in the 1990s, Irvin retired after the 1999 season and has been working as a studio analyst for ESPN television.
Irvin, who was inducted to the Cowboys' Ring of Honour earlier this year with quarterback Troy Aikman and running back Emmitt Smith, holds club records for catches (750), receiving yards (11 904) and 100-yard games (47) to go along with 65 touchdowns.
