Hong Kong - South Africa has taken revenge against Wales for their Melbourne Commonwealth Games defeat, winning 21-17 in their final pool game at the Hong Kong Sevens tournament on Saturday.
The Boks however, lost playmaker Fabian Juries during the match.
South Afica scored first, thanks to a cross-field run by Renfred Dazel. His inside flick sent Antonius Verhoeven over for the try.
Wales hit back almost immediately, when Rhodri McAtee caught the defence napping and ran around the touchline to equal the scores.
With referee Marcelo Fabian Pilara's whistle dominating proceedings, and South Africa defending furiously in their own 22, the Boks forced a penalty.
Juries exploited the gap as Wales tried to fall back and defend, running 60m before offloading for Tobela Mdaka to score.
In the second half, Mzwandile Stick collected a difficult ball toed to him, chipped and collected to put the Boks 14 points out.
Wales weren't finished, however, with Tal Selley first bumping off Stick to put Wayne Evans away from the try.
Gareth Chapman brought back memories of the Welsh fight back in Melbourne with a late try, but the Boks held on for the victory.
