Body found on mountain slope

Beijing - Chinese rescuers on Friday confirmed that a body found in a remote mountain area is that of a white male believed to be one of two US climbers missing since early November.
The body is suspected to be that of 52-year-old Charlie Fowler, missing for more than a month along with compatriot Christine Boskoff, 39, an official with the Sichuan Mountaineering Association said.
"It is very likely that it is one of the two missing American climbers," the official said.
"We're doing the identification work now, and the result will come out tomorrow at the latest."
The body, buried in snow with only the legs exposed, was found on Wednesday on Genyen mountain in Sichuan province in southwestern China, and was wearing professional mountaineering clothing, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
The US consulate in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, had dispatched people to identify the victim, the agency said.
Judging from the scene, it was likely the man had encountered an avalanche, the official said.
The body was found at an altitude of 5 300m on the 6 204m mountain, an earlier report said.
The climbers had left their luggage in a remote mountain village on November 11, and arranged to come back on November 24 to pick up their belongings, but they never returned.
