Johannesburg - Ashleigh Simon, fresh from representing South Africa at the Women's World
Cup of Golf at Sun City, finished the first round of the Australian Open on
Thursday three stokes off the lead.
The South African amateur opened with a three under par 69 at the Royal
Sydney Golf Club and is tied for fifth behind leader Sarah Kemp of
Australia, who heads the field following a 66 in the Ladies European Tour event.
The legendary Karrie Webb is tied for second with Australia's Nikki Campbell
after a round of five under 67.
Another South African in Stacy Bregman, who recently turned professional and
secured her playing privileges on the LET, opened with a one over par 73.
