ASA general manager quits

Johannesburg - Problems within Athletics South Africa mounted on Friday when its general manager, Linda Ferns, resigned.
The smoke has still not cleared over the organisational problems in the big budget Nedbank Series and now in an Olympic year and with the national track and field championships two weeks away, Ferns has apparently had enough.
Ferns has long been the backbone of the administration in a body that has often been accused of being far too political and will sadly be missed.
When asked for comment she would not be quoted as to the reasons for her departure, after having served the body since 1993. Speaking from Oudtshoorn where the third last Yellow Pages athletics is being held on Saturday, Ferns said. "I cannot comment on my reasons for leaving. A statement will be released by ASA in due course.
"However, I wish my employers the best for the future", she succinctly said.
The rumour mill in the athletics world is already churning out reasons for her sudden departure, with continual political pressure being one of the more feasible reasons being put forward.
