Lorient - Two sailors were injured when the multi-hull Foncia, on which America's Cup holders Alinghi were training, capsized at the entry to the port of Lorient, maritime police confirmed on Saturday.
Of the eleven sailors on board, including respected French skipper Alain Gautier, two were slightly injured and transferred to hospital by helicopter.
The remaining team members clung to the netting of the trimaran before being rescued. Five sailors remained on board to help salvage the boat.
The accident took place at 11:00 (10:00GMT) on choppy seas with waves reaching two metres high and gusts of winds of up to 60 km/h.
Alinghi, who have little experience on multi-hulls, began their training under the guidance of expert Gautier in the western French port on Wednesday to prepare their America's Cup title defence against the US Oracle team.
