Misano - Michael Schumacher qualified third for his first official motorcycle race.
Competing in the minor KTM series, the retired seven-time Formula One champion will start Sunday's race on the front row at this track near Italy's Adriatic coast.
Schumacher timed 1 minute, 50.602 seconds, improving his time by more than a second and a half from the morning session. Andrea Padovani took the pole position in 1:50.273 and Luca Margiotta was second in 1:50.453
"Being in front is always better, but I would enjoy myself even in the middle of the group," Schumacher said. "Now I'm thinking about tomorrow."
Schumacher retired from Formula One in 2006 after winning a record 91 races and 68 pole positions.
"I'm pleased and having a lot of fun," Schumacher said. "Where do I want to go with this? Wherever I feel like. There's no definite plan...Don't start telling me about wild cards for MotoGP or Superbike. I just want to have some fun."
