Doping: SA star suspended
02/04/2008 20:37 - (SA)
Durban - Northern Tigers swim star Keri-Leigh Shaw has been provisionally suspended from competition effective from Tuesday, April 1 following a positive drugs test during the Fina Swimming World Cup in Belo Horizonte in Brazil on November 25 last year.
She now faces a hearing before the Fina doping panel following an analysis of a B-sample.
Kerri-Leigh Shaw was withdrawn from the South African Aquatic championships currently on in Durban by Swimming South Africa after they had been informed of the failed test.
She was reportedly tested positive for the substances Clenbuterol (Class S 1.2 Other Anabolic Agents) and Ephedrine (Class S.6 stimulants).
The Fina Executive, acting in terms of Rule DC 7.1.12, then decided to provisionally suspend Keri-Leigh pending further tests by the doping panel.
