Elana to run in Bali
31/01/2003 15:40 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Elana Meyer will start her 2003 international season with participation in the Bali 10km on Sunday.
The event has been organised by the government of Indonesia following the tragic bomb blast in that country last year.
Athletes from around the globe have been invited who include Tegla Loroupe, Leah Malot, Susan Kurui (all from Kenya) and an in-form Benita Johnson from Australia.
The route will take the runners past the site of the bomb blast site, in what is sure to be an emotional event.
Meyer has opted not to compete in Japan in the month of January as she traditionally has done, and has set her sites on a series of major international events. She has also planned to do a number of SA races, which she will announce soon.
Meyer was recently awarded the World Record for the 15km and the Half marathon, when the IAAF announced it would recognise world records in Road running events.
