Adidas to rethink olympic support

16/01/2008 19:13 Berlin - Adidas, the second-biggest global sports equipment maker, will reconsider support for secondary Olympic disciplines after the 2008 Beijing Olympics, its boss was quoted as saying on Wednesday.

"After the Olympic games we will reexamine all that does not provide the brand visibility we expect," Herbert Hainer told the German daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

Adidas provides equipment to 27 of 28 Olympic disciplines, with the exception of equestrian events.

But a ban by the International Olympic Committee on diplays of the Adidas three-band logo on team uniforms limits the attraction of such sponsorships.

"We are trying to deal with it, and we are still in talks with the IOC," said Hainer, who acknowledged that the decision was hard to take.

Adidas shoes will continue to sport the three-band logo, he added, "and they will be very visible during the Olympic games."
