Perth - The Springboks, with left wing Bryan Habana leading the way, exploited a number of Wallaby mistakes on defence to record their victory in the Tri-Nations Test against Australia.
Habana scored two tries to help the Boks to a 22-19 victory. The 22-year-old wing again impressed with his speed and increased his try tally to 12 in 11 Tests.
"You have to believe in yourself. If you do not do that and doubt yourself, something will go wrong. If you get the chance to score a try, you have to grab it and round off the move. The more often you do it, the better you will become," Habana said after the match.
Talking to Habana afterwards it was obvious that the Boks first victory in Australasia since 1998 has boosted the players self-confidence. They are looking forward to the match against New Zealand in Dunedin on Saturday.
Habana said: "We are not travelling to Dunedin to defend the Tri-Nations title, but to win it. We will lose if we do not have this psychological frame of mind. We knew this one (against Australia) would be tough and important.
"But the victory is something of the past. We will start preparing for the All Blacks on Monday. That match will be ten times harder than Saturday's encounter. There are no South African supporters in Dunedin and the players will have to feed off their team-mates' energy.
"I cannot wait. It will be a classic Springbok/All Black match. I am already getting gooseflesh," Habana said.
Bok captain John Smit was very relieved when he saw Habana pull away at full speed for the Aussies tryline. The Boks were defending their try line with all their might, first tackling George Gregan and then Mat Rogers before Percy Montgomery started the move that led to the try.
Smit said: "Never before in my life have I been so happy to see a turnover. I was absolutely exhausted from defending and then getting back into position for the next onslaught."
