Rossouw solves Bulls' woes
16/01/2008 11:01 - (SA)
Pretoria - Danie Rossouw who played at No 8 for the Springboks in the Rugby World Cup final, is currently training at lock with the Bulls.
With Victor Matfield, Cliff Milton and Francois van Schouwenburg in France and Bakkies Botha on the injury list, the Bulls coaches decided the versatile Rossouw should take over Matfield's role in the lineouts.
Forward coach Pote Human on Wednesday said Rossouw is training in the front as well as in the middle of the lineout and he worked with Matfield at the training camp in George in order to get used to making the lineout calls.
"It is wonderful to have a guy like Danie in the squad because he doesn't mind in what position we use him, he just wants to play. He will probably start at lock when the Super 14 kicks off, but we can also use him as a flanker or at number eight."
There were some concerns earlier this year that Rossouw might miss the start of the Super 14 due to a neck injury, but Human is optimistic he will be able to play against the Stormers.
Other good news is Gurthro Steenkamp's rehabilitation is going very well and he might be ready for the game against Rassie Erasmus's Stormers. Akona Ndungane is also recovering from his stress fracture and he wants to be up and running when the Bulls play their friendly against the Lions.
