Bloemfontein - Springbok fullback Bevin Fortuin has recovered from his hip injury and can start training for his comeback to first-class rugby immediately.
There were fears that his career may have been cut short in an incident in which he was bowled over by Schalk van der Merwe of the Falcons last year.
However, it has now been confirmed that Fortuin is on his way back. He only has to get match fit to start playing again.
The Cheetahs received more good news on Thursday when it was announced that Springbok loose forward Hendro Scholtz had also been given the all clear to start training.
"The news about Bevin and Hendro is extremely positive," Cheetahs team doctor Org Strauss said.
"Bevin can start running immediately. He will follow an intensive fitness programme and should be ready to be considered for selection in six weeks."
The talented Fortuin's recovery will certainly bring a smile to coach Naka Drotské's face.
Straus said Scholtz should be ready for selection in four weeks after his recovery from a knee injury.
The Cheetahs have good depth among the loose forwards but Scholtz's experience, defence and strong running are valuable assets. He has also gained some more muscle by working out in the gymnasium.
