Former Boks appeal to IRB

Romanian role for Chester Stofile attack on Boks slammed 'Rugby ambassadors of apartheid'

Johannesburg - AfriForum and a number of former Springbok captains revealed on Sunday that they had officially appealed to the International Rugby Board (IRB) to take a stand against political interference in rugby.

Last week, AfriForum and the former captains met South African Rugby Union (Saru) president Oregan Hoskins to discuss their concerns about political interference in South African rugby.

The former captains include Divan Serfontein, Nelie Smith, Avril Malan, Wynand Claassen, Hannes Marais, Theuns Stofberg, Abie Malan and Johan Claassen.

Other rugby legends such as Frik du Preez, Gerrie Germishuizen, Krynauw Otto, Ewoud Malan, Ockie Oosthuizen, Richard Prentis, Daan du Plessis and Div Visser have also thrown their weight behind the petition.
