Lions give Ntunja a chance
02/04/2008 09:32  - (SA)

  • Lions trampled by Wildebeest
  • Easterby finished with Tests
  • Bulls v Cavaliers in key clash
  • Johannesburg - Former SA Schools flanker, Kaunda Ntunja, will get an opportunity to claim a permanent spot in the Young Lions' Vodacom Cup team when he runs on for his side to meet the Elephants in a Cup rugby match at Union Rugby Club in La Rochelle on Saturday.

The former Cheetahs and Border flanker couldn't get crack a spot in the team so far this season and has been playing club rugby for Raiders since joining the Lions.

Ntunja was contracted to fill the void left by Springbok Solly Tyibilika, but hasn't lived up to expectations.

Jody Rose will return to flyhalf for this clash, replacing Arno Coetzee who has played in all the games so far this season.

Young JJ Pienaar now gets a run at inside centre while the versatile Clinton de Klerk comes in on the wing to replace a disappointing Galiel Markus.

In a rotational move Torrie Meyer starts at hooker with Gavin Williamson on the bench.

The Lions have to win both their remaining games to qualify for the play-offs.

Young Lions (possible): Michael Killian; Clinton de Klerk, Trekker van Tonder, JJ Pienaar, Colin Lloyd; Jody Rose, Straatkat van Zyl; Francois Uys, Kaunda Ntunja, Roland Bernard, Willem Stoltz, Varkhond Grobler, Gert Muller, Torrie Meyer, Wayne Swart. Reserves: Gavin Williamson, Gert-Andries van der Merwe, Alten Hulme, RW Kember, Andre Smith, Heini Gordon, Luhann Steenkamp.
