Ikeys lose home advantage

Cape Town - There is no question of the Varsity Cup final being played at the Newlands rugby stadium here on Monday.
The match between the universities of Cape Town and Stellenbosch will be played at Stellenbosch even though the Ikeys finished at the top of the log to ensure a home final.
The problem is that the floodlights at UCT are not strong enough for live television coverage of a night match.
This prompted Rob Wagner, managing director of Western Province Rugby (Pty) Ltd, to say earlier this week he would like to see the match being played at Newlands.
However, the organisers want the final to take place on a campus ground, probably because Newlands may not draw a big enough crowd.
The Ikeys are said to be unhappy and there have been rumours that the students may draw up a petition.
However, the Maties will now have the home-ground advantage that should have belonged to the Cape Town side.
