Bulls can call on their U-20's
14/04/2008 15:30 - (SA)
Johannesburg - The Blue Bulls will be able to make use of their SA Under-20 players for the quarter-final play-offs of the Vodacom Cup on April 26.
The Blue Bulls, who finished on top of the log of the North section, play the Lions at Loftus Versfeld in the quarter-final. Should they win, they will play the winners of the quarter-final between Griquas and the Leopards.
The Blue Bulls have 13 players in the SA Under-20 squad that is currently in France where they are preparing for the Junior World Cup that takes place in Wales in June.
There is concern about captain Carel Hoffman, who took over the captaincy from the injured Pieter Meyer.
Hoffman had an appendix operation after the match against the Bulldogs and it is uncertain when he will be fit to play again.
However, wings John Mametsa and Trompie Nontshinga are making steady progress after both injured their hamstrings against the Free State.
* The Blue Bulls have to date used 12 black players in their campaign.
"These players - Mox Mxoli, Bandise Maku, Fudge Mabeta, Hilton Lobberts, Vince Gwavu, Ignick Windvogel, Burton Francis, Luvuyo Mhlobiso, John Mametsa, Trompie Nontshinga, Tiger Mangweni and Rocco Jansen were all selected on merit and they are playing brilliant rugby," said Blue Bulls Vodacom Cup coach Nico Serfontein on Monday.
