Scotland confirm Test venues
17/04/2008 19:09  - (SA)

  • Vickery to miss All Blacks tour
  • Friday first for Six Nations
  • London Sevens draw announced
  • Edinburgh - Scotland confirmed on Thursday the first Test of their Argentina tour will take place at the Gigante de Arroyito stadium in Rosario on June 7.

The stadium is home to Rosario Central Football Club and hosted matches at the 1978 soccer World Cup, won by Argentina.

The second Test will be played a week later at the 49 540 capacity home of football club Velez Sarsfield in Buenos Aires, a regular venue for the Pumas, which has also staged rock concerts.

Argentina beat Scotland 19-13 in the quarter-finals of last year's World Cup in France.

Frank Hadden Scotland's coach, said last month: "Argentina will be a physically demanding tour.

"We know from our most recent match against them in last October's Rugby World Cup quarter-final we'll need to be at our very best."

Argentina were beaten 37-13 by eventual champions South Africa in the semi-finals before defeating hosts France 34-10 in the third-place play-off, a victory that helped them climb to third in the world rankings - a position they still occupy.

Hadden's men finished fifth in the Six Nations with their lone win a 15-9 success over arch-rivals England at Murrayfield in March.

Although beaten by Italy in Rome on the final day of the competition last month, Scotland's superior points difference meant the Azzurri finished bottom of the standings.

Scotland last toured Argentina in 1994 where they suffered two narrow Test defeats as the Pumas ran out winners by 16-15 and 19-17.
