Pretoria - The Blue Bulls Company and Bakkies Botha drifted even further apart when the Springbok lock forward's claims were described as "incorrect" in court documents on Wednesday.
The Blue Bulls joined, for the first time in public, the lively debate about Botha and his efforts to play for the French club Toulon.
This will result in a legal action that is set to start in the labour court on May 28.
The Blue Bulls have released their response to claims made by Botha in official court documents.
According to the statement the contract that was negotiated with Botha in 2006, and which has become the matter in dispute in the labour court action, involved "considerable" adjustments to the player's remuneration package.
The salary increase was the reason that the Blue Bulls were "unable to retain promising lock forwards such as Francois van Schouwenburg, Adriaan Fondse and Cliff Milton".
In the news release, reference is also made to disruption caused in the Bulls' Super 14 team by the commotion surrounding Botha.
The Bulls, who won the competition last season, are now in 11th position on the points table.
* No decision has been taken about where Botha's World Cup lock partner Victor Matfield will continue his career. Matfield, who has been playing for Toulon, is considering an offer from the Northampton Saints and an improved one from the Blue Bulls.
