Hoskins elected to RWC board
02/05/2008 15:36  - (SA)

  • Blues keep Super 14 hopes alive
  • Crusaders sink gutsy Sharks
  • Ban foreign based players
  • Johannesburg - South African Rugby Union (Saru) president Oregan Hoskins has been unanimously elected onto the board of Rugby World Cup Ltd.

Hoskins was voted in at an IRB Council meeting in Dublin and will serve a four-year term to the conclusion of the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

"This is a very great honour for South African rugby and a fantastic personal challenge," said Hoskins. "It underlines the fact that South Africa is still regarded as a country with a major contribution to make to the future of the international game."

Hoskins is part of a high-powered committee of five. The Rugby World Cup board is chaired by former IRB president Dr Syd Millar and also includes current IRB president Bernard Lapasset, IRB vice-chairperson Bill Beaumont and IRB chief executive Mike Miller.

"This is a great boost for South Africa but the main focus for the board now is to help New Zealand deliver a great Rugby World Cup in 2011."
