Cape Town - Isma-eel Dollie has gone from the Springbok training squad to club rugby. The talented young flyhalf is now expected to turn out for the Oasis SK-Walmers club this weekend.
Dollie was available to play for Boland in the Currie Cup match against Western Province at Newlands but the Cavaliers have retained Elgar Watts at No 10.
The former SA Under-21 player was in the national training squad early this season and played in the Emerging Springboks team that won the Nations Cup in Romania.
However, he failed to get into the WP team for the Currie Cup competition. He was among the substitutes for three matches without getting any game time.
With Springbok Peter Grant, Willem de Waal and Naas Olivier at the front of the queue in the WP squad, the 23-year-old Dollie was released to play for Boland, where he enjoyed some success last year.
He started training at Wellington but the Cavaliers did not select him for the match against the Blue Bulls, which they lost last week.
Outstanding playmaker
And on Wednesday he was also overlooked for the match against his WP team-mates.
Boland coach Deon Davids said on Monday he would consider Dollie for the Newlands match, describing him as an outstanding playmaker, ball distributor and tactical kicker.
On Wednesday, Dollie was informed that he had not been included in Boland's 22 for the match against their neighbours.
It is now likely that Dollie will have a run for his club on Saturday.
It appears the Boland selectors did not even include Dollie among the substitutes because they feared he might be exposed to unnecessary pressure. Neil Papier and Stefan Basson can play at flyhalf if needed.
The Boland team: Justin Peach, John Daniels, Deon Scholtz, Kobus Meintjies, Renfred Dazel, Elgar Watts, Marnus Hugo, Dries van Schalkwyk, Henley du Plessis (capt), Zolani Mofu, Bradley Mockford, Frikkie Spies, WP Nel, Pieter Wium, Jean Basson.
Substitutes: Clemen Lewis, Janro van Niekerk, Jacobie Adriaanse, Frankie Horne, Whalied Heyns, Neil Papier, Stefan Basson.
