Johannesburg - The wheels have been set in motion to kick-start a new company to drive the 2010 World Cup finals which will be staged in South Africa.

At a South African Football Association's (Safa) executive committee meeting at the weekend, it was decided that a section 21 company would be formed.

It would run the soccer showpiece which will be staged in Africa for the first time.

The Daily Sun's source explained that the section 21 company would be a non-profit one and would consist of seven members or directors.

"We will have a non-executive chairperson (who will not be paid) with a paid chief executive officer who will be in charge of the day-to-day running of the event, plus five directors," said the source.

The chairperson is likely to be Irvin Khoza. Danny Jordaan is hotly tipped to become the new CEO of the company to run the World Cup finals.

Both men played the biggest roles in securing the 2010 finals for South Africa and it is logical that both should continue to run the event. "The forming of the section 21 company is expected to be rubber stamped when the proposal is put before the annual general meeting of Safa next month. Fifa are keen for us to start preparations for the staging of the finals as soon as possible," said our source.
