  • Josephs banned for 6 months
  • Maxwell Ramaru, Daily Sun

Johannesburg - Ajax Cape Town will appeal to Safa over the six-month ban on goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs.

Furious Urban Warriors chairperson John Comitis said he could not understand why Safa had banned his player for a second six-month term after using a banned substance called Salbutamol.

Earlier this year, Josephs successfully appealed against using Sabultamol, which is part of his medication for asthma.

Said Comitis: "We will contest this ban. We cannot understand why they say Josephs used too much Salbutamol. How can he use too much of the substance while he is on medication?"

The ban could affect his chances of representing Bafana Bafana during next month's African Nations Cup finals in Egypt as he is among 35 players selected in the provisional squad. by national coach Ted Dumitru

Comitis added: "We could have accepted the ban if the player had tested positive for a different substance." Josephs is a crucial member of our team, and we cannot sit back and relax as he is not guilty. We hope this matter will be sorted out within the next few days."
