Johannesburg - The brains behind Bafana Bafana believe they have the right blend of youth and experience to go all the way in the African Nations Cup finals which kick off in Egypt next week.

Assistant coach Simon Ngomane said on Monday that the technical team had worked long into the night to analyse the players and make the final selection.

"We (the technical team) worked long into the night analysing the players. There has been a lot of work and effort put into the selection of the 23-man squad that head coach Ted Dumitru announced at the weekend."

On how far the new-look Bafana will shape up in the continental showpiece Ngomane said: "We are an unknown quantity at present. But just look at Greece in Euro 2004. Nobody gave them a chance of getting into the knockout stages, never mind winning the trophy. We have a good chance of getting to the final. The spirit is fantastic and the players, especially the younger ones, have plenty to show and prove. But there will be no pressure on them."

Now that his scouting duties are complete, Ngomane will focus on helping Dumitru and assistant coach Pitso Mosimane. He'll spend time with the younger players, giving individual coaching sessions over the next few weeks.
