Hospital funds diverted to 2010
25/01/2007 19:29 - (SA)
Johannesburg - South Africa's health ministry on Thursday said the construction of a hospital had been delayed by a year as the treasury had diverted funds to projects linked to the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
"There has been a 12-month delay in the building due to a cut-back in budget availability from (the) national treasury as a result of the diversion of funds towards the preparations for 2010," spokesperson Shelley Fielding said in a statement.
Work on the 200-bed hospital, which will cost R200m, will now only commence in 2008. It is due for completion in 2011.
