08/03/2007 22:26 - (SA)
Oslo - Kjetil Siem has been appointed chief executive of the South African Premier League.
The 46-year-old Norwegian will take over in August, said his Oslo employers on Thursday.
Siem, a former sports journalist and writer, was director of Oslo club Valerenga before becoming director for media and business developer for Norsk Toppfotball, which represents Norway's top league and other teams, a year ago.
"I will lead the league in South Africa and hopefully contribute to there being a wonderful World Cup," said Siem.
South Africa will host the World Cup in 2010.
Irwin Khoza, chairperson of the South African league, said Siem's understanding of soccer and background from television, the internet and the media made him ideally suited to developing the league.
