Cape Town - The Cape Town Environmental Protection Association (CEPA) is considering making an application to the Cape High Court to review the decision of the provincial government to approve the Green Point Stadium development.

The Association is backing the 2010 World Cup, but believes the controversial stadium represents a "gross misuse" of public funds.

"Some of the medium to long-term consequences of having to live with the stadium, especially at Green Point, have either been ignored or mis-represented. There has never been adequate consultation with the citizens of Cape Town," the association said in a statement.

The city last week approved the tender award for the 68 000-seater stadium, which is expected to host a 2010 semi-final.
