Silver Stars shine at home

Johannesburg - Silver Stars meant business from start to finish when they walloped Bidvest Wits 3-0 in a fast and entertaining Castle Premiership game played at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Stars shone bright in the first half and built up a 3-0 lead to unsettle the visitors. In-form Stars striker Hareoipha Marumo was first to score when in the 17th minute he beat Wits goalkeeper Moeneeb Joseph with a powerful shot.
Stars forced Wits to play with their backs against the wall which forced defender Ashraf Hendriks into a mistake resulting in an own goal in the 20th minute. Hendriks tried to clear a shot from Dingane Masanabo and the ball rolled straight into the empty net.
Masabo, who was enjoying his game, was in the picture again when he latched onto a good pass in the dying minutes of the half to score the home team's third and last goal.
The second half was a repeat of the first with Stars dictating terms. Wits, however, had a chance to score deep in the second half but the Stars defenders together with their goalkeeper were on the alert and refused Wits any glory.
Stars have collected 48 points during the season with 13 wins and seven losses, and occupy third position on the log, and a game to play.
Eric Tinkler who took over as Wits coach from Bobby Solomons three months ago, has failed to secure a win and his team is left in 13th position on the log with 32 points from eight wins and 13 losses, with a game in hand.
