  • Durban - Bafana Bafana beat Chad 4-0 in an MTN CAF African Cup of Nations qualifier at the Absa Stadium in Durban on Saturday afternoon.

The goals were scored by Nasief Morris, Siyabonga Nomvete and a brace by Sibusiso Zuma.

This was South Africa's 200th international match, marking a busy average of 13 games per year since they returned from international isolation in 1992.

The last time South Africa scored four goals in a match was when they beat Swaziland 4-1 in a Cosafa Castle Cup match on August 24, 2002.

The home side were by far the better team on the field and had they taken all their chances they could have scored at least three more goals against a Chad side that never tested goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez.

Sibusiso Zuma tormented the Chad defence all game and he could have scored more than the two goals he did had he taken his chances.

Zuma had a scoring opportunity in the ninth minute but headed Elrio van Heerden's cross wide.

Bafana were awarded a penalty in the 12th minute when Zuma was fouled by the goalkeeper in the box. Nasief Morris scored with the penalty kick.

Zuma scored with a first-time shot inside the box after receiving a quality pass from the left from Delron Buckley in the 22nd minute.

Zuma scored his second goal in the 33rd minute when he received the ball from the middle and dribbled forward, rounding the goalkeeper to score.

Buckley narrowly missed scoring when his shot went past the post in the 40th minute.

Bafana should have been awarded a penalty in the 57th minute when Zuma was clearly pushed off the ball but the referee chose not to see it.

Morris came close to scoring when he shot past the post from a corner in the 63rd minute.

Siyabonga Nomvete scored with a close-range shot after Van Heerden unselfishly passed the ball to him after he had dribbled post five players on the right.

The win lifts Bafana to 10 points on top of Group 11, three points ahead of second placed Zambia.

    Bafana squad:

Rowen Fernandez, Aaron Mokoena, Nasief Morris, Cyril Nzama, Bradley Carnell, Papi Zothwane (Vilakazi 62), Delron Buckley, Elrio van Heerden (Modise 71), Macbeth Sibaya, Surprise Moriri (Nomvete 62), Sibusiso Zuma.
