D-Day for 2010 objections
02/08/2007 14:03 - (SA)
Cape Town - Businesses and individuals have until the close of day on Thursday to submit written objections to the list of trademarks and logos which Fifa plans to protect for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
These include words and phrases like 2010, Fifa, World Cup, South Africa 2010 and even drawings of the Fifa World Cup trophy.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Mandisi Mphahlwa, has called for public comments around the list of names associated with the proposed 2010 World Cup trademark - as is required by the Merchandise Marks Act.
Ever since ambush marketing legislation was promulgated before the Cricket World Cup in South Africa in 2003, these laws have been used by other countries as a legislative model for major international sponsored events.
