Ronaldo slams 'unjust' ban
21/08/2007 12:05 - (SA)
London - Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo described his three-match ban for head-butting Portsmouth's Richard Hughes as "unjust" on Tuesday.
The Portugal international was sent off in the closing stages of United's 1-1 draw at Portsmouth last week after thrusting his head into the Portsmouth midfielder's face, earning him a mandatory three game suspension for violent conduct.
Even his manager Sir Alex Ferguson acknowledged at the time that the card was justified, although he did claim Ronaldo had been provoked and has since called on referees to protect skillful players.
"I am frustrated because three matches is unjust," Ronaldo told the Daily Mirror. "I am willing to resist the provocation - but only up to a limit.
"That limit was passed at Portsmouth. It was just absurd."
The 22-year-old missed Sunday's defeat to Manchester City and will not be available for the Premiership fixtures against Tottenham and Sunderland.
