  • Stars triumph over Ajax
  • 'Tera' back to terrorise Stars
  • Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana's Tembinkosi "Tera" Fanteni on Friday received a bonus following his inclusion in the squad to play world champions Italy on Wednesday, with the announcement by Ajax Cape Town that they had concluded a R10m deal with Israeli club Maccabi Haifa for the tearaway striker.

The transfer constitutes one of the most lucrative yet negotiated by a PSL club for a player and comes at a time when local teams are queuing up for his services.

"Fanteni will continue to play for Ajax until December," announced the Cape Town club, "and then move to the Israeli giants when the transfer window opens again in January.

Spent several days with the club

Ajax PRO "Shooz" Mekuto said: "We've had numerous offers from rival Premier League clubs, but with "Tera" eager to fulfil an ambition to play abroad, we were confident that he would draw the attention of an overseas club - and now we have hit the jackpot."

Fanteni recently spent several days training with the Israeli club and returned to South Africa last week, with Maccabi Haifa immediately expressing a desire to sign him.

Mekuto said: "The last few days have been spent in negotiating terms for the transfer and we believe we have done very well for ourselves and the player."

Fanteni is one of three strikers in Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira's squad to face Italy - and while he may not gain a place in the initial line-up, he said from Germany, where Bafana have set up a training camp, that he was hopeful of participating in the prestige encounter at some stage or another.
