Parreira wants more friendlies

Johannesburg - After a 5-0 thrashing of Lesotho, Bafana Bafana head coach Carlos Alberto Parreira discloses that there are other players that he wants to have a look at for consideration in the senior national team.
The match against Lesotho this week consisted of only locally-based players, and while the likes of Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi, Thabo Nthete and Diyo Sibisi made good debuts, and Parreira adds that he still wants to give other newcomers a chance.
The Brazilian mentor is expected to name his tentative squad for the Afcon tournament in Ghana on Friday.
"Playing friendlies gives me a very good platform for our preparations for the 2010 World Cup, and I feel we need to play more so that I can have a look at as many promising players as possible.
"The importance of these matches enables us to assess how players adapt at international level and how they fit into our set up and the playing pattern.
Strongest oppositions
"In order for us to achieve our goal, I will need the support from all the PSL clubs while we are still in this building process. I did not get all the players I initially called for the Lesotho game because they were not released by certain clubs, however those who were around delivered and I was very happy with the overall performance of the team.
"Yes, Lesotho may not be one of the strongest oppositions but my assistant Pitso Mosimane told me that they have had a tough time against them in the past so it was a job well done by our players.
Parreira has also described the Bafana?s Group 4 draw as a good one because it would offer the South Africans the litmus test to forge a good ground for the 2010 World Cup finals.
"This is what we wanted, one of the tough teams," he told the Nigerian Press.
"It?s important to have strong opposition. We were always going to be happy to play the big teams like Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Ghana. Nigeria is a top team too and for us to be well-prepared for 2010; we have to play a team like this."
