Special away kit for Bafana
03/12/2007 21:47 - (SA)
Johannesburg - The away strip of Bafana Bafana will be launched sometime in February next year says Mzi Mbane, the Adidas football product manager in South Africa.
A sunshine-yellow kit with green detail was launched just before the Nelson Mandela Challenge Cup (November 17) a game which South Africa lost 1-0 to the US. The new outfit features a three-quarter arm length jersey, the first of it's kind by the German clothing manufacturer for a soccer team.
"The design is based on our F-50 range that is for the young and vibrant people," Mzi said. "We (Adidas SA) wanted to add something different and we came up with the three-quarter length styling. It is something unique and no other team has this style.
"The jersey is also designed with our Formotion technology which does not restrict movement and it will keep the players cool too, especially in the heat of Africa. It (the jersey) absorbs sweat and therefore the jersey will not get heavy as they play."
Bafana Bafana will face Angola, Tunisia and Senegal in the group stages of the 2008 African Cup of Nations in Ghana. Luckily none of the opponents colours will clash with Bafana's.
Angola wear red jerseys and black shorts, Tunisia white jerseys and red shorts and Senegal also wear white t-shirts and green shorts.
"The colours we used, yellow and green, are part of the country's colours and Safa also asked us to use these colours. They (Safa) provided a guideline and we did the design."
