  • Durban - Kaizer Chiefs narrowly beat AmaZulu by 1-0 in the play-off for third and fourth positions in the Hamba Uphephile soccer tournament at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban on Sunday.

The was no score at halftime.

AmaKhosi as Chiefs are known, scored the winning goal through striker, Mabhudi "Lion" Khenyeza in the 69th minutes

Home side AmaZulu dominated the first 15 minutes of a dull match as they plied pressure on the Chiefs defence which was well marshalled by skipper, Cyril "S'khokho" Nzama.

In the second half Chiefs started to gel in the midfield with youngsters comprising of new recruit, Michael Nkambule, Gerald Sibeko and David Obua showing some flair and good passes.

The victory was a relief to Mushin Ertugral whose side lost 2-1 to Lamontville Golden Arrows on Saturday.

In the dying minutes on the game, veteran uSuthu midfielder almost beat Chiefs goalkeeper Emile Baron with a superb free kick which went wide near the right upright.

The defeat show that AmaZulu coach Clive Barker has a lot of work ahead if he wants to avoid relegation in the Premiership this season.

In the first game on Saturday AmaZulu lost by the same margin to Orlando Pirates in the semi-finals.
