Blackburn - Blackburn Rovers have reportedly opened talks with striker Benni McCarthy over a new contract worth about R500 000 a week.

According to a report in the London Daily Mail on Monday the 30-year-old Bafana Bafana striker, who has a clause in his deal which allows him to leave in the summer for R70m, has attracted interest from West Ham and Newcastle.

But McCarthy has failed to capture the form that brought him 24 goals in all competitions last season.
