  • Witbank - Witbank Spurs boss, Themba Mafu has issued a statement in which he pays tribute to the late legend, Steve "Disco" Makua who passed away on Saturday in a crash between Witbank and Middleburg in Mpumalanga.

Makua, father of Frank "Disco" Makua who played for Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport United and Dynamos will be remembered during his days as a player at Witbank Black Aces.

"It's a sad loss to us because we were very close to this legend (Makua).

He was like a brother to me and he helped my club with his coaching methods. It is very difficult for our players including his son, Frank to accept his passing," said Mafu.

Cyprian Maimane, a former teammate at Black Aces was at a loss of words but labelled Makua as a very humble person.

"I am shattered and at a loss of words to describe how I feel about Steve passing. We were very close and he's the one who brought me to Witbank Spurs last season to help," stated Maimane who is now a goalkeeper coach at Mpumalanga Black Aces in the National First Division.

No funeral arrangements have been made.
