  • Police arrest troubled Gazza
  • London - Former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne has been released from a clinic after being held under the Mental Health Act since February 20, British media reported on Friday.

The former Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Rangers and Lazio player, widely known as Gazza, had been detained after being arrested at a hotel in Newcastle, north-east England.

The 40-year-old, who won 57 caps between 1988 and 1998, made international headlines during the 1990 World Cup in Italy after crying following a yellow card in England's semi-final defeat by West Germany which would have seen him suspended for the final.

Hugely talented but also temperamental, Gascoigne, who also played for Everton, Middlesbrough, Chinese second division side Gansu Tianma and minor league Boston, struggled with a series of personal problems after retiring from the game.
