  • Johannesburg - Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club announced that, effective June 1st, Nike South Africa will be the official technical sponsor of the Club for a period of four years.

The partnership between these two leading brands is testimony to their objective to consistently deliver superior and quality football, while identifying and nurturing young talent for 2010 and beyond.

"We are excited to welcome Nike to the Mamelodi Sundowns family. Nike's global commitment to football is in line with our vision and strategy of significantly contributing to the development and growth of football in South Africa and on the African continent," said Mamelodi Sundowns President Patrice Motsepe.

Mamelodi Sundowns has been the most successful Club in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) since its inception in 1996; having won the PSL Trophy during the 1997/1998, 1998/1999, 1999/2000, 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 football seasons. During the 2007/2008 football season, Mamelodi Sundowns won the SAA Supa 8 and were finalists of the Telkom Knockout.

Nike partners with the world's most successful players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Wayne Rooney as well as Benni McCarthy and Aaron Mokoena who are arguably South Africa?s most successful players. The brand also partners with the game?s leading national teams such as Brazil and Portugal, and clubs such as Manchester United, Juventus and Barcelona.
